TB SCREENING BREAKTHROUGH CONFIRMED

RESULTS AVAILABLE IN UNDER 5 MINUTES

Trial work undertaken on TB patients at a World Health Organisation (WHO) TB approved hospital in India has confirmed the groundbreaking speed and accuracy of the TB 'breathalyser' invented by Cambridge-based Rapid Biosensor Systems (RBS). The company has what it believes to be the fastest, non-invasive method for screening Tuberculosis at the point-of-care.

RBS CEO Dennis Camilleri said, ' You just cough into a tube - there is no blood testing required. We were able to check the performance of our device by screening TB patients and then validating the results using more conventional but much slower tests. We are excited about the future of this product as nothing on the market comes close to our breathalyser reader in terms of speed, size and cost. During the trials in India we were consistently getting accurate results in well under 5 minutes, as opposed to ten days or more with conventional blood tests currently in use. Further, our test is completely safe, pain free and can be administered by non-medics.'

TB, a disease that kills some two million people every year, is highly infectious and is on the increase not only in the emerging third world countries but also in first world regions. A product which minimises the risk of further infection by isolating TB positive people very quickly will undoubtedly be beneficial to communities all over the world.

RBS is seeking further investment to take its life-saving product into manufacture, and plans to distribute it as soon as possible through Distributor Partners and agreements with manufacturers of medical devices.
